Twenty20 World Cup 2010 Fixtures-Schedule

Third edition of ICC World twenty20 2010 will be held in West Indies. The tournament will start from April 30^th and will end on May 16 2010. Semi Finals of world twenty20 will be played on 13^th and 14^th of May 2010 at St Lucia in Beausejour Stadium and Final will be played on May 16^th in Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The tournament will be played at four venues in Caribbean – Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts and St Lucia. There will be total 27 numbers of matches will be played and the tournament will run for seventeen days.

The present defending twenty20 champions Pakistan are grouped along with Australia and Bangladesh in Group A, while 2009 world twenty20 runners-up Sri Lanka is in Group B along with New Zealand and Zimbabwe. India is in Group C along with South Africa and world T20 qualifiers winner Afghanistan (Associates team1). The host West Indies is in Group D along with England and Ireland (Associates team2) runners-up of world twenty20 qualifiers.

That means there will be total 12 teams participate in 2010 twenty20 world cup with each Group contains three teams. Only  two teams from each Group will advance to the next stage (Super 8’s) and top four team from super 8’s will move to play the first and second semi finals.

The ICC has also announced top two ranked teams in each groups and associated them with number 1 and 2 rankings. They will retain this number irrespective of whether they finish first or second during Group stage matches.

For example, If New Zealand top ranked Group B and Sri Lanka finished second in the same groups then Sri Lanka will still remain as B1 and New Zealand will remain as B2 for next Super Eights stage. However if Zimbabwe knockout Sri Lanka in Group B then Zimbabwe will become B1 and Sri Lanka will be out of the tournament.

World twenty20 2010 will start with the game against host West Indies and world twenty20 qualifier runners-up of 2010 (Associates team2) and on the same day New Zealand will take on Sri Lanka at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
