IPL twenty20 2010 – Deccan Chargers through to the semi finals

What a dramatic turnaround by the boys in blue Deccan Chargers, they have beaten one of tournament favourite Delhi Daredevils to enter the semi finals of IPL 2010 season. At half way stage of the tournament Deccan Chargers were placed at bottom of the table and from that point they have performed exceptionally well to win five games right through. Now Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers are through to the semis. However for the last spot we can say Royal Challengers Bangalore will go through but in cricket anything can happen so we should keep our mouth shut until the results of the game between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Only miracle can help KKR to knock off Royal Challengers Bangalore otherwise three teams from South and one from the heart of India are through to the semi finals of IPL 2010.

It was a must game for both the team Delhi and Chargers after the result of the previous match against Chennai and Kings XI Punjab. After winning the toss Deccan Chargers captain, Gilchrist decided to put runs on the board on slow and turning Kotla wicket. However his team only manage 145/7 in their 20 overs thanks to quickfire fifty from Andrew Symonds (54 runs of 30 balls), apart from Symonds no one able to make big impact with the bat.

Chargers who kewn only brilliant fielding and good bowling can win the game for them after scoring such a modest total against formidable Delhi batting lineups and they did exactly what was required. Rohit Sharma, who contributed only 11 runs with the bat, took a couple of breathtaking catches to tilt the game Deccan’s way. He flew low to his right at first slip, grabbing a one-hand catch to remove Virender Sehwag. In the seventh over, he flung himself to his left at short midwicket to get rid of Gautam Gambhir.

Loss of three quick wickets halted Delhi run chase and in the end it was way too much for the half-centurion Paul Collingwoods who tried hard but couldn’t able score required 17 runs of last over bowled by experienced Chaminda Vaas.

Now the defending Champions Deccan Chargers will take on Chennai Super Kings in the 2^nd semi final of IPL 2010 on 22^nd of April 2010 at Dr DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai. Because of minor blast just before the game against Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, the two semifinals has been shifted to Navi Mumbai.

A.Symonds was declared Man of the Match for his super batting which helped Chargers to post fighting total on the board.
