IPL T20 2010 – Kolkata Knight Riders beat Deccan Chargers by 11 Runs

What a start to the 3rd edition of IPL twenty20 2010, Kolkata Knight Riders who looked down and out of the game during the first half of the game came back strongly to beat the defending Champions Deccan Chargers by 11 Runs to start the tournament on winning note.

Chasing the target of 162 runs to win, Deccan Chargers got off to flying start with their openers putting 61 runs in just 35 balls. Both V.V.S. Laxman (22 runs of 14 balls) and Captain A.Gilchrist (54 runs of 35 balls) smashed the ball around the park by riding on the luck as the ball ballooned in the air quite a few times but out of reach from the fielder, however introduction of M.Karthik into the attack bring smiles on KKR fans faces as he dismissed Laxman in his very first over.

At 99/1 in the 12th over Deccan Chargers looked well on course to wrap this game but the loss of four quick wickets in the middle in the space of 30 deliveries peg them back. All the batsmen got out in trying to play some extra ordinary shot that was not there. Needing 18 in the last over they manage just 6 as KKR registered their first win in their first game of the tournament.

After put into bat Kolkata Knight Riders loss four quick wickets in the first six overs of the game and two in the very first over of the match but thanks to superb display of calmness by Angelo Mathews (65 runs of 46 balls) and O.Shah (58 runs of 48 balls) who went on to put an unbeaten stand of 130 runs in just 89 balls to bring Kolkata Knight Riders back on track at the end of their inning.

A.Mathews was declared Player of the Match for his match winning knock of 65 runs of just 46 balls.
