IPL 2010 – Gambhir brilliance guide Delhi Daredevils home by five wickets

It was Gambhir who made the difference in the end; he played a cool knock of 72 runs of just 54 balls to guide his team home by 5 wickets against Kings XI Punjab at Mohali.

A clinical performance from the Delhi Daredevils bowlers kept Kings XI Punjab to a modest 142-9, before Gautam Gambhir produced a captain’s knock to steer his team home. Needing four runs to win from last overs, Irfan Pathan dismissed Delhi Daredevils captain but F.Mehroof and M.Manhas guided Daredevils hoem with one ball to go.

Chasing the target of 143 runs to win, Delhi Daredevils got of to disastrous start loosing two of their star players Virendra Sehwag (8 runs of 6 balls) and T.Dilshan (0 runs of 1 balls) in the 2nd over of their inning. Both batsmen dismissed by S.Sreesanth.

AB Devilliers who joined Gambhir ran himself out to create more drama in the middle with 45/3 in the 8th over; it was left to Captain Gambhir and Dinesh Karthik to steady the ship. Both played well to put on 34 runs for the fourth wicket before D.Karthik (20 runs of 18 balls) getting out in search of some quick runs.

However the pair of M.Manhas (31 runs of 24 balls) and Gambhir put on another crucial partnership of 61 runs to give Delhi upper hands in the end.

Earlier after put into bat, Kings XI Punjab batsman struggled against some good bowling by D.Nannes and M.Mehroof as they lost the wickets at regular intervals. Ravi Bopara was the top scorer during Punjab innings with 56 runs of 48 balls.

Gautam Gambhir was declared Player of the Match for his match winning knock of 72 runs of just 54 balls.
