Deccan Chargers beat Kings XI Punjab to win first game at home

What a turn around by Chargers, their first win at home and against Kings XI Punjab both came in the same match.  They survive a late assault from Irfan Pathan to secure the win by 6 runs.

Deccan Chargers were cruising at once stage after reducing Kings XI Punjab for 68/6 in 12 overs but Irfan Pathan  raised the hope for Kings XI Punjab by smashing 60 runs of just 29 balls with five huge sixes and three fours, but in the end they fell short by 6 runs.

The hope of Kings XI Punjab destroyed in the first ball of the last over when Irfan Pathan tried to hit the ball of Jaskaran Singh out of the park and hwy not they needed 19 to win from last over.

Now with this loss Kings XI Punjab are placed at the bottom of the point’s table alongwith Rajsthan Royals, both have played three games having lost three. So now the things are getting tougher and tougher for these two teams.

After winning the toss Kumar Sangakara has no hesitation in electing to field first, but Chargers came out all guns blazing smashing 43 runs in the first three overs of play with A.Gilchrist smashing 33 runs of just 12 delivereis. After the dismissal of Glichrist, Laxman also have to retired hurt after having hit by ball at non-strikers end in his right hand.

However, in-form Andrew Symonds (53 runs of 38 balls) and H.Gibbs (23 runs fo 22 balls) continued to dominate the Kings XI bowling attack with a solid 55 runs partnership for the second wicket. In the 10^th over they reached 100 runs and were looking well on course to cross 200 run marks in their 20 overs.

But introduction of Yuvraj Singh into the bowling attack turn the game for Punjab, as Yuvraj picked up two quick wickets by dismissing both Symonds and Gibbs in quick succession. Rohit Sharma also got run out splendidly by M.Jayawardne.

In the end Deccan Chargers manage just 170/7 in their 20 overs. Chansing the target of 171 runs for victory, Kings XI Punjab got off to disasterous start loosing all their start players inside the first six over of play. Bisla was firt to go after scoring his second duck in the IPL, Kumar Sangakara also didn’t trouble the scorer and the hopes of Punjab “Yuvraj Singh” also got out after scoring just 4 runs. M.Jayawardne who looked good during short stay at the crease also bowled out by A. Symonds.

Andrew Symonds was adjudged Man of the Match for his allround performance with both bat and ball.
