Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders – CSK thrashed KKR by 55 Runs

Riding on M.S.Dhoni blistering knock of unbeaten 66 runs of just 33 balls, Chennai Super Kings registered there first win in IPL 2010 by beating Kolkata Knight Riders in their backyard.

After electing to bat first Chennai Super Kings posted challenging 164/3 in their 20 overs thanks to superb partnership of 109 runs of 65 balls between CSK captain M.S.Dhoni (66 runs of 33 balls) and S.Badrinath (43 runs of 33 balls). Both joined the crease when Kolkata Knight Riders looked in complete command of the game, having restricted Chennai Super Kings to 55/3 in the 10th over.

M.S.Dhoni who was dropped on 1 by W.Saha made full use of the life he got from the little wicketkeeper and smashed all Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers in the last six overs of the innings. With 103/3 at the end of 16th over only when Dhoni decided to changed the gear and taken 61 runs in the last four overs to take his team to more than competitive total on a wicket which was looking to support spinners as well as pace bowlers.

Until the final assault from the Chennai duo, nearly everything went according to Plan A for Kolkata. With some early movements KKR manage to keep the run rate in check. They draw the first blood by removing dangerous Mathew Hayden (1 runs of 8 balls), few over later Laxmi Ratan Shukla dismissed M.Vijay (33 runs of 26 balls) to reduce the Chennai Super Kings score to 53/2 in the 9th over and in very next over Suresh Raina got bowled by Brad Hodge to put KKR on top.

But Dhoni’s arrival at the crease completely changed the complexion of the game and his knock proved the difference between a below-par total and a defendable one.

Chasing the target of 165 runs to register their third consecutive win, Kolkata got of to disastrous start as they lost both of their openers inside two overs of play. The hero of last games B.Hodge and M.Tiwary not able to give their team the start which they were hoping for.

With required run rate mounting ball by ball, it was W.Saha who tries to take too many risks and paid the price to only push his team in further trouble. At 34/3, Kolkata needed a solid partnership which didn’t happened as they continues to loss wickets at regular interval and finally they folded out for 109 runs in 19.2 overs.

Only four players from Kolkata Knight Riders manage to get into double figure mark. They are W. Saha (22 runs of 13 balls), L.Shukla (19 runs of 16 balls), S.Ganguly (11 runs of 20 balls) and M.Kartik (21 runs of 20 balls).
