Finally after 45 days of action pack cricket, we all know who is Champions of IPL season three? No one has thought 15 days back that the team who is relinquishing at the bottom of the table will be one who will lift the IPL 2010 trophy at Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on 25th of April 2010. But as we all know the MSD is achieve the things which no one has thought and that is what he did it again now for Chennai. Now in one night he became the God of Chennai fans.
At midnight Dr DY Patil Stadium was stunned into the silence. The men in yellow went berserk in the middle as MS Dhoni’s captaincy had overshadowed the bravado of Sachin Tendulkar in the big final on Sunday. The Super Kings came up trumps by 22 runs in what was a cracker of a game.
Chasing the target of 169 runs for victory, Mumbai Indians started their run chase very slowly and when R. Ashwin bowled the first maiden over of the day in the very first over of Mumbai Indians run chase the crowds sitting at DY Patil Stadium realize that it’s not an easy walk for Men in Blue.
Mumbai Indians once again rely heavily on Tendulkar and as long as he was in the middle Mumbai Indians knew that they have a chance. After loosing the first wicket for 1 runs, S.Tendulakr (48 runs of 45 balls) and A.Nayar (27 runs 26 balls) put on 66 runs of 58 balls to keep Mumbai in the hunt. But introduction of Suresh Raina in the 12th over peg back Mumbai as they have lost both Nnayar and H.Singh in the space of five delieveries.
At that time Mumbai still needed 95 runs from 48 balls with S.Tendulkar still at the crease. But as soon as S.Tendulakr departed in the 15th over Mumbai hope of lifting the IPL trophy also started to fall apart. Mumbai surprised everybody by keeping Kieron Pollard in the dugout till the end. When K.Pollard walked into the middle they needed 55 runs from last three overs.
K.Pollard as per his reputation doesn’t disappoint the crowd and hit 22 runs in the 18th over bowled by D.Bollinger to keep Mumbai Indians hope alive. Now Mumbai Indians needed another 33 runs of last two overs and Dhoni knew that one good over will seal the game for Chennai and that is what A.Morkel did for his team in the 19th over. Not only he boweld superbly but also removed dangerous K.Pollard in that over to help Chennai Super Kings to lift the IPL trophy for the first time.
Earlier Chennai Super Kings after electing to bat first were struglling at 67/3 in the 12 th over, but M.S.Dhoni (22 runs of 15 balls) and S.Raina (55 runs of 35 balls) put on 72 runs of just 35 balls to help Chennai to put 168/5 in their 20 overs.
